Home/The Hands on Computer Project
The Hands-on Computer project was aimed at providing hands-on ICT skills to over 1800 children in less privileged communities. This project was rolled out with a mobile library van that gave the children access to ICT education.
IMPLEMENTERS, the project managers of this project, partnered with NOKIA, Global Giving and EIFL to successfully test this innovative solution in Ho, which is located in the Volta Region of Ghana. Our systematic approach to this project initiated it with a needs assessment process and ended it with an impact assessment program to ensure sustainable impact.
Mobile libraries equipped with solar power would take fully charged laptops and tablet computers to schools so that children can get hands-on experience. With EIFL support, Volta Regional Library complemented efforts by the Ghana Government to bridge the digital divide and support children’s education by taking solar-charged laptop computers preloaded with educational material related to school subjects and Wi-Fi internet to schools that do not have computers, internet access or reliable electricity.
