The Breast Cancer Campaign

As part of the WearItPink campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, IMPLEMENTERS has undertaken a multi-faceted initiative to promote breast health awareness and empower communities through education, engagement, and actionable support. Breast cancer remains one of the prevalent cancers affecting women globally and a significant concern among Ghanaian women.
According to the Ghana Health Service, over 70 per cent of the 4000 yearly diagnosed breast cancer cases are in advanced stages, resulting in limited treatment success and high death rates. In many communities, cultural barriers, stigmatisation, financial constraints and limited access to information and healthcare services contribute to late-stage diagnoses, poor outcomes and ultimately high mortality rates.
Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, this campaign aimed to mobilize community efforts towards early detection and raise awareness about breast cancer through outreach, free screenings, and survivor testimonials. The campaign was managed by IMPLEMENTERS on behalf of the PREBBiE Group and targeted communities within Dansoman and surrounding areas.
Our objectives for the WearItPink campaign included:
  • Educating the community on the importance of early detection and regular screening.
  • Increasing access to free breast cancer screenings.
  • Fostering community support and awareness through survivor testimonies, awareness walks, and social media engagement.
Key achievements of the campaign include:
  • Community Outreach & Education: Through flyers, digital content, and on-the-ground activations, the campaign reached over 5,000 individuals, spreading critical messages about self-examinations and breast health.
  • Free Screening Services: The staff of PREBBiE Group mainly benefited from free breast cancer screenings, helping identify cases early and providing necessary support.
  • Survivor Testimonies: These powerful personal accounts inspired participants, providing a real-life perspective on early detection’s importance and fostering an empathetic, supportive environment.
  • Awareness Walk in Dansoman: Initially planned for October, the awareness walk was strategically held in November, to extend the campaign’s impact beyond Breast Cancer Awareness Month, gathering reach over 5000 people to reinforce the message of year-round vigilance and support.
While the WearItPink campaign has concluded for this year, IMPLEMENTERS is focused on reinforcing the outcomes and encouraging continued awareness:
  • Community Engagement: Working with local groups to maintain an ongoing dialogue on breast health.
  • Health Partnerships: Exploring partnerships with local healthcare providers for continued access to screening services.
  • Digital Education: Building an online repository of resources to support year-round access to information on breast health and preventive care.
