IMPLEMENTERS Hosts the Inaugural Climate Forward Summit (CFS) 2025

Climate change is affecting millions of lives across Ghana and the African continent, threatening communities, livelihoods, and entire ecosystems. While there are many ongoing conversations about how to address the crisis, these discussions often happen in silos, with key players missing from the table.

To bridge this gap, IMPLEMENTERS hosted the first edition of the Climate Forward Summit (CFS) on July 31 2025, at the GIMPA Executive Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana. The summit was designed to bring together all climate stakeholders and align their efforts, ideas, and strategies for stronger and more unified climate action. This first-of-its-kind gathering welcomed participants from government, agriculture, energy, extractives, academia, and civil society, including representatives from the Ministry of State in Charge of Climate Change and Sustainability, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, and several leading climate organisations from across Ghana.

Under the theme “Foundations of Climate Action: Aligning Vision, Sector, and Strategy,” the summit emphasised the urgent need for collaboration and coordinated climate governance, calling on government agencies, businesses, non-profits, researchers, local communities, and individuals to work hand-in-hand to build a climate-resilient future.

In his welcome remarks, Kafui Prebbie, CEO of IMPLEMENTERS, highlighted the urgency of the climate crisis and encouraged all institutions present to turn shared ideas into real action. These sentiments were echoed by Rajiv Pradhan, Country Director of Swiss Contact, as well as representatives from various government ministries in their goodwill messages. Cedric Dzelu, who represented the Ministry of State in Charge of Climate Change and Sustainability, also shared progress Ghana has made, including the launch of the Biennial Transparency Report, which is a key step in demonstrating the country’s accountability under the Paris Agreement.

The Climate Forward Summit featured engaging presentations that shed light on Ghana’s national climate strategy and the role of corporate social responsibility in driving long-term climate solutions. These sessions were led by Cedric Dzelu and Laurin Assiamah-Yeboah, Head of Portfolio and Operations at IMPLEMENTERS, who spoke on how the government and the private sector can work together to address the climate emergency.

Interactive forum sessions were a major highlight of the day. One of the standout discussions on “Strengthening Agriculture for Climate Resilience: Navigating Extractive Pressures” brought together experts like Kofi Kisiedu Acquaye from YPARD Africa, Richard Okoe, President of the National Beekeepers Association, Angelina Tutuah Mensah, UNFCCC Co-Chair, and Olivia Kipo from CAMFED. Moderated by broadcast journalist Victoria Beeko Danso, the session explored how the extractive industries impact agriculture and how both sectors can adapt and thrive in a changing climate.

Another engaging session on “How the Extractives Sector Can Be a Catalyst for Change” was led by Hilda Asiedu of CDKN and featured speakers like Emmanuel Baidoo from AngloGold Ashanti and Dr. Charles Ofori from ACEP. They discussed the need for mining and energy companies to reimagine their operations through a climate resilience lens.

The final panel on “Bridging Sectors for Climate Action: Co-creating Solutions Between Extractives and Agriculture” brought together Samuel Bekoe from the Center for Extractives Development in Africa, Ing. Marina Agortimevor from Africa Just Transition Network, and Kweku Afari from WACAM. Moderated by Betty Dufie Owusu of ACEP, the discussion focused on how the extractive and agriculture sectors can work together more intentionally to support climate-smart outcomes.

The summit also celebrated organisations making real strides in climate action. AngloGold Ashanti received the Climate Leadership Recognition for integrating climate risk into its business strategy. Twellium Industrial Company Ltd was honoured with the Climate Forward Ally Recognition for its support of local climate resilience initiatives. CAMFED received the Innovative Climate Solution Recognition for its Agriculture Guide Programme, which promotes climate-smart, women-led farming solutions across rural Ghana. The Climate Forward Summit 2025 concluded with a commitment to keep the momentum going and with an exciting announcement: CFS 2026 is on the horizon and promises to be even more impactful, inclusive and action-oriented.
